Nothing recharges my batteries more than being outdoors, whether it's fly-fishing mountain streams in Colorado, tromping through rose-colored CRP grass for pheasants on a cold Kansas morning, or sharing a tree with a raccoon family while bow hunting for deer in Indiana. Everything else is stripped away and it's a focused, intense state in which I am, at the same time, powerful as the hunter, yet humbled and awed by the scale and grandeur that is God's creation in which I am such an insignificant spec.

Born and raised in Colorado, I spent a lot of time camping and fishing in the mountains with my family, "bird dogging" for my dad in Eastern CO's pheasant cornfields, and hunting rabbits, quail, and bullfrogs on my grandparent's farm in Missouri. College in Kansas ensured that my study time was adequately interrupted by pheasant chasing, harassing doves, and stalking deer in the Flint Hills.

I love any type of outdoor activity but what brings me the most enjoyment is bringing first-timers into the fold. Whether it's hunting sparrows and pop cans with my own boys and their BB-guns, or helping a teenager break his first clay pigeon with a shotgun, or helping get a child's first bluegill off the hook, nothing brings me more satisfaction than seeing the looks of accomplishment on their face and the realization that they're hooked for life on the same addictions that I suffer from - enjoying God's Country!
